Opening Day: Amsterdam Plaza
F
reedom Day proved to be an even more auspicious day for us here at Shift Capital, as it marked the opening of our first centre in our retail portfolio – Amsterdam Plaza in the Mpumalanga Province. The long-awaited opening day saw our esteemed tenants open their doors to the Amsterdam community for the very first time. The centre was abuzz with shoppers eager to take advantage of the specials on offer now that they were quite literally on their doorstep for the first time which ultimately negated the need for them to commute to surrounding towns to purchase their essential goods.
The entire team were on-hand to witness the doors of our tenants being opened to the public as well as to interact with the community members who turned out to support their new centre. We were honoured to be graced by the presence of dignitaries from the Mkhondo Municipality to offer their blessing over the new shopping centre.
The 2 400m2 shopping centre boasts a carefully curated tenant mix designed to offer residents more of a variety when it comes to shopping for essential goods at the best possible prices. In the small town of Amsterdam, prior to the opening of the new Plaza, residents were deprived of access to good quality foodstuffs at a reasonable price without having to commute nearly an hour to purchase it.
However, residents can now enjoy a Grade A supermarket in the shape of a Shoprite, ensuring a constant supply of fresh produce, meat, and a comprehensive range of everyday essentials.
Flanking the Shoprite supermarket is a national fast-food chain bringing the authentic taste of Kentucky fried chicken to the town, two leading national clothing retailers offering quality garments at reasonable prices, a Shoprite Liquor Shop and three other niche line shops serving the needs of local shoppers.
