Carl Klückow

The third arrow in the Shift Capital quiver is a commercial powerhouse who has left indelible chemtrails across all the industries he has traversed in his illustrious career.

Characterized by his peers as a highly motivated self-starter who is driven to deliver, and his career trajectory can attest to that. Over the course of 14 years, Carl has garnered local and international experience which has rendered him a sought after Commercial and Finance Executive.   

After matriculating from Maritzburg College, Carl pursued a Bachelor of Accounting science which provided the impetus behind his undulating commercial career – one that earmarked him to be fast tracked to a senior commercial or general management role.

After cutting his teeth as the provincial finance manager for the esteemed G4S Cash and Secure Solutions firm, he was soon promoted to overseeing the financial wellbeing of the company on a national level. Fast forward a couple of years (literally) and Carl was at the helm of business development in his role as Business Development Director for G4S’s African continental operations.

Buoyed by his notable achievements in the above-mentioned role his reputation began to precede him in his industry-centric field of expertise. So much so that he was approached by SBV and proffered the role of Commercial Manager, and he crossed the security industry floor so to speak.  

His commercial acumen and relentless ambition resulted in a promotion amongst the ranks at SBV. During his tenure as Head of Business Development, the firm won several large contracts with the ABSA outsourcing tender of their cash infrastructure being the jewel in the crown.   

Following a successful spell in the security industry, Carl switched security for commodities and soon extrapolated his sublime commercial acumen to the Ugandan landscape. During his tenure as General Executive and Finance Controller at GADC, Carl was instrumental in exponentially increasing the company’s commercial viability and instilled an effective diversification  strategy.

When May of 2019 beckoned, Carl realigned his career trajectory which would see him return to South Africa to partner with long time family friends Nic and Tim to further execute Shift Capital’s mandate – one that Carl certainly subscribed to.

During his tenure as Commercial Finance Director at Shift Capital, Carl has navigated the company through some of the most socio-economically tumultuous waters of a generation. Moreover, he was fundamental in bolstering Shift Capital’s total asset value to R170 million generated from a net value of R40 million – all of this from a zero percent start up when it was incorporated in 2018.

Carl’s drive, work ethic and contagious ambition has encouraged members of the Shift Capital staff complement to strive to perform as optimally as he does. On the odd occasion when he is not lost in the matrix of Excel spreadsheets, deal structuring, organisational restructuring or hunting new business, Carl is happiest on his boat fishing for the biggest fish – no surprise there.
